God is our Strong Tower and Place of safety in the midst of the storm
A tower was a tall building or structure erected for the purposes of protection and preservation. (Source: https://www.thejoshlink.com/article146.htm)
The Greatest Watchman is watching out for us
For security and defence purposes, some towers were built at the entrance to cities so that the strong men (military personnel if you like) could perform surveillance to ensure only authorised people gained entrance to the city.
Strong men were also positioned at towers so they could see approaching enemies, and be able to warn, defend and protect their inhabitants in case of enemy attack.
God not only assigns angels to watch over us, as declared in Psalms 91:11,
For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.
He actually watches over us and our friends and families Himself! And the best part is He never even gets tired or falls asleep in the process! Alleluia!!!
Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. Psalms 121: 4 WEB
God is our Place of Safety.
A Tower was also a Place of Safety, as everyone who entered a Tower felt safe in there, knowing that someone (a Watchman) was watching out for the safety of everyone.
God is Our Strong Tower and our Place of Safety.
He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.2 Sam 22:20 NLT
But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress. Psalms 59 :16 NLT
For you have been a refuge for me, a strong tower from the enemy. Psalm 61:3 WEB
The Name of Jesus is a Strong Tower
I believe some Strong Towers also provide respite from storms to travelers.
Just like entering into a Strong Tower provides respite from storms, calling on the name of Jesus also provides respite from any storm we may experience.
The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10 ESV
My encouragement to you today is to keep on confidently calling on the name of Jesus. Why? Because Jesus is the most powerful name there ever was, and when we call on the name Jesus, things change and every negative situation – loneliness, sickness, fear, death, hopelessness, uncertainty,… – bows and loses their power over us.
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:9-10
God is our Strong Tower. He is our Place of Safety. Alleluia!
