The Word of God is a Spirit that goes to work to do as we have spoken.

The Word of God is like Water

A few years ago at my cell group meeting, we were reminiscing about the teachings at the recently concluded Maximise Life Conference – an annual anniversary convention held at my church, New Wine Church, London.

We discussed how the main speaker, Dr Creflo Dollar, spoke about the power in the Word of God. He had talked about how speaking the Word helped him dispel negative thoughts and overcome a cancer scare.

My cell group leader shared how the Word washes away dirt from us, just like a waterfall would if we were standing under it. Ezekiel 36:25 NIV says “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.”  In Ephesians 5 verse 26, Paul actually talks about how Christ gave Himself up for his bride, the church, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the Word.

The Word of God is Spirit and Life

Later on, as I was thinking about how powerful the Word is, the scripture that says “The Word of God is Spirit and Life” came to my remembrance. The scripture says in John 6:63 NKJV, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” Then it hit me! The Word of God is a spirit! Alleluia!

To strengthen my conviction, the Bible says in Hebrews 4: 12 (NKJV) that “The Word of God is living and powerful….” But how can the Word be “living“? Because it is a life form. What??? Yes! The Word of God is a spirit life form!

The Word of God is the Spirit of God

In John 1:1 NKJV the Bible says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word was with GodThe Word was God… What is God? I think God is a noun that stands for a sovereign spiritual entity (or person). The Bible says “God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24 NKJV

God is a Spirit. And the Word was God… So Word = God.  So if we substitute Word with God in the first phrase” God is a Spirit” this means the “Word is a Spirit”. And if the Word of God is a Spirit then it explains why speaking the Word of God can raise the dead, heal the sick, free the oppressed and change impossible situations. How? Because the Word is a Spirit!

The Word of God is Active

Therefore, when we speak the Word of God into a situation, the Word we speak literally translates into a spiritual entity that goes to work to do exactly as we have spoken. In fact, we have to be careful of the words we speak whether positive or negative as this Spirit of the Word literally does everything we say.  “…I will do to you the very things I heard you say” Numbers 14: 28b.

“So shall My Word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it…” – Isaiah 55:11
