Origin of the phrase “Walk on Water”

Walk On Water is a phrase made popular by the Bible record of when Peter walked on water on the encouragement of Jesus.

In Matthew 14, it was recorded that Peter, as well as the other disciples that were with him, had seen someone walking towards their boat at sea. They were terrified because they thought they were seeing a ghost and cried out in fear. However, it turned out it was Jesus and He told them not be afraid.

When Jesus said He was the one, Peter told Jesus to command him to walk on the water to meet Him if it was truly Him. So Jesus asked Peter to walk towards Him on the water, and for a brief moment, Peter was crazy enough to trust Jesus and actually started to walk on water towards Jesus.

However after a brief moment, Peter came to his senses as he looked around and realised he was actually walking on water, which was not supposed to be possible for humans to do. Peter then got so scared that he began to sink, but thankfully Jesus rescued him when he cried for help.

Inspiration to Walk On Water

The inspiration to Walk on Water came to me in April of 2019 when I first watched below YouTube music video titled Walk upon the Water by Spirit of Praise, a Christian singing group.

Walk Upon the Water by Spirit of Praise

As I watched the video, the Lord began to expand my mind about the the connotations of Peter’s Walk on Water in a way that I never comprehended before. I actually became quite certain I would have to write a book about it as the Lord gave me a lot of insights into the whole concept and context of Walk on Water.

To Walk on Water is to Take Action on the Word

One of the things the Lord impressed on my heart as I watched the video was that to Walk on Water means to Walk based on the Word. It means we are to take action based on the words that God has spoken to us.

I was then inspired to believe that whenever I read the Bible or get to learn more about God and His ways, I Walk on Water. As I walk on water – or on the Word if you like – I am then empowered to stretch myself to do great things. I am even able to be and do things I deemed difficult or impossible, based on the new insights I receive from God and His Word.

Purpose of Walk on Water

Walk on Water is an online platform set up for encouragement, and to inspire people of all ages, genders and vocations and faiths to step out and do great things in spite of themselves and the world around them.

It is my desire that we can grow a community of people that will be happy to share their thoughts and experiences, and encourage and inspire others to be all they can be.

Decision to start Walk On Water blog

Since I had spent years writing about some of the things God taught me, but never really shared or published them, I reckoned it might be a good idea to start sharing some of the things that I learn when I Walk on Water with people.

Hence I decided that when the time was right, I would start a blog and call it Walk On Water.

Proposition to Walk on Water

It is my hope and desire that my posts will encourage you and inspire you to also Walk on Water – i.e. spend time learning more about God, His will and His ways. You can do this mostly through studying the Bible. But also by attending Christian events and by reading, listening to and watching Christian content via various media and platforms.

It is also my desire that as you learn more about God, you will be supercharged to be and do all the things God inspires in you.
