God, Our Comforter provides us comfort and reassurance in the midst of a storm.
Receive Comfort when you are upset
Several weeks ago, I watched a Whatsapp video about a little girl who was with her mother.
The little girl was upset as her mother explained that all her favourite food restaurants had closed because of the recommended “lock-down” due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
She got even more upset when her mother told her that even the food delivery people would not be able to deliver any of her favourite meals as well. She wailed even louder as her mother explained that she was going to be stuck with her Mum’s cooking for a while. The video was really cute and I did wonder if her mother’s cooking was all that bad.
Like the little girl, many of us get upset when we go through challenges and difficulties.
Just like the mother tried to comfort her little girl, God the Holy spirit is always there to meet our needs and comfort us through encouraging words from the scriptures.
We also get comforted as we learn from other peoples’ experiences, and also as we remember the stuff God has brought us through in the past.
Disruption to living
The COVID-19 outbreak has brought a lot of disruption to our normal everyday lives.
People who lead very active lives are upset because they are unable to leave their houses as much as they would like.
Some of us are upset because we cannot go to visit our friends and family, or hang out with them in the places we usually went – like parks, parties, clubs, churches, restaurants, events, etc.
Some people are upset that they cannot go to watch their favourite games or shows.
Others are upset that they cannot go to the hairdresser or go on holiday.
For some people who have lost loved ones as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, it has been a struggle to navigate life without the people who have been a big part of their lives. Most days are difficult for these people as their lives have become very different. Life also feels unbearable sometimes as they grieve their loved ones.
God Our Comforter promises it will get better
At this difficult time, I would like to assure you that God Our Comforter sees and knows what we are experiencing and promises that we will be okay.
A mother is usually right when she comforts and reassures her child that “it is okay” and “it will get better”.
God the Holy Spirit, our Comforter, is able to provide more comfort than any mother could. I therefore, urge you to receive the comfort and reassurance of God our Comforter. He says “it is okay” and “things will get better”, and He is not a man that He would lie.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. John 14:16 – 18 KJV
Just as a mother tries to comfort and reassure her children when they are upset, God our Comforter will always be with us to comfort us when we experience difficulties – including the ones we currently experience as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. 1 Thessalonians 2:16 – 17 NLT

Yes and Amen. I love to see God as our Comforter. No one comforts like He does! He is the Father of all comforts and He indwells us never to leave us to our own ‘devices’ ! Amen!
Thank you so much for the reminder Stella
Alleluia to the greatest Comforter we could ever ask for.
He never leaves us to deal with things on our own so we don’t destroy ourselves.
