A Custom made Psalm inspired by God

Several weeks ago, my Senior Pastor – Pastor Kola Taiwo of New Wine Church – brought encouragement and reassurance to our church community by taking us through Psalms 91.

I had read Psalms 91 many times in the past, and in fact, I could recite most of it by heart. However, God’s word is very potent and alive as declared in Hebrews 4:12.

For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.

As my Pastor continued to share the words in Psalms 91, the passage seemed to come alive to me.

Suddenly it seemed that Psalms 91 was specifically written to bring encouragement to us and help us cope with the current COVID-19 crisis, as every verse of Psalms 91 suddenly seemed to address the uncertainty and fear brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

God, our Dwelling Place

I became very excited as my Pastor continued to encourage us from Psalms 91. However, the bit that got my attention the most was the fact that God was my Dwelling Place.

Like I already mentioned, I had read Psalms 91 many times before and knew that God’s shadow and wings of protection covered me because I dwell in His secret place (in His presence) as stated Psalms 91 verse 1 and 4.

However, it never really dawned on me that God was indeed my Dwelling Place as stated in verses 9 – 10.

In all my years of reading, reciting and praying Psalms 91, I always assumed that the phrase “neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.” meant that no plague could come near my house (my physical dwelling place or that of my family).

I never made the connection that God was actually my Dwelling Place, and that because I dwell in God, no plague (e.g. COVID-19) can come near me.

No plague shall come near my Dwelling Place (God)

No plague shall come near my Dwelling Place (God) .

Therefore, by faith I believe that no plague shall come near me – not just inside my house (my physical dwelling place), but also inside my body (including my heart, where God actually lives). And no plague will come near me wherever I go, because I actually live inside God.

For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:3 NLT.

Since God is so powerful that no evil can survive around Him, by faith and by the mercy of God, I believe that Corona Virus or any plague or sickness cannot survive around or inside me, because I live inside God and He is indeed My Dwelling Place.

In the midst of the global pandemic, I pray that we will all realise and always remember that God is our Dwelling place. He is always watching over us and we are safe in His arms. (Psalms 91:4, 11)
