God is the source of our inspiration and motivation to help and encourage others in the midst of a storm.
Selfish People
A couple months ago, I decided to call a colleague of mine to see how she was doing since it had been a week since my organisation asked us to work from home to help contain the spread of the Corona Virus.
We began to talk about the COVID-19 situation and I told her about how I had also cried as I watched an Intensive Care Nurse cry on the news over the selfishness of panic buyers. She had become very upset as she was unable to find any food to buy at a store after working very long hours.
I told my friend the behaviour of the selfish panic shoppers was upsetting me as well, as I had seen images of emergency workers and elderly people who had gone grocery shopping and found nothing to buy.
Selfless People
My friend cheered me up by assuring me that some people were doing good stuff in the midst of the crisis as well.
She told me about how one hotel chain had offered rooms to NHS staff should they require them.
She mentioned that in her neighbourhood, they had a platform that enabled people communicate with, and look out for one another.
Finally, she told me about how some Medical students had volunteered to help the NHS in the midst of the crisis.
I remembered that my organisation had also shared a video of how, during the lock-down, some people in Italy and some other parts of Europe were singing from their streets and balconies to encourage and entertain one another through the power of music.
Most supermarkets are now doing their bit to assist the elderly and emergency workers, e.g. by assigning shopping times to them.
I also later heard that some supermarkets and food outlets were delivering free food to NHS workers at some point.
Inspiration to serve others
Selfless people are an inspiration to us. They gladden the heart by reminding us that there is still good in the world.
They also challenge us to think about how we can also make a difference in our communities as well.
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Hebrews 10: NLT
Just like the NHS staff and all those who work in Emergency and Relief services put their lives on the line to help and look after people in the midst of the global crisis, I pray that we will all be challenged to go above and beyond to help and encourage those around us as well.
I pray that we will all accept the challenge to exhibit love and kindness in the midst of the current global crisis.
We can actually make a difference by calling our friends and family to check on them; helping elderly or vulnerable neighbours with their shopping; or even just staying indoors more to help contain the spread of the Corona Virus (however hard that may be).
But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding. Job 32:8 KJV

Beautiful and inspiring reminder that we are called to serve one another. There’s joy in service,God help us to help those who cannot help themselves.Thank you dear.
Amen!
We are God’s hands and feet… We just need to keep extending God’s Love to others, and not allow the fact that we are limited in how much we can do and how many people we can reach, stop us.
Thank you for your comment Ma.
Be an inspiration to someone, Jesus came to serve, if we are His follower, then we need to imitate Him and serve others selflessly. Thank you for the reminder.
Absolutely Sis!
I love this – we need to be imitators of Christ and serve others just like Jesus did.
I guess that’s one of the reasons Jesus said we have to become like little children – children imitate adults without even thinking about it.
So we have to borrow a leaf from them and imitate Christ and His way of doing things without hesitation, reservation and rationalisation!
Alleluia!
God bless you for this perspective Sis!
Thanks & Amen!
A true Christian ( follower of Christ) must live a selfless life. Others first. 🙏🏽
That is our calling! We are called to live like Christ on this Earth. Jesus came to show us how easy to live a selfless life; we must endeavour to be an imitator of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Holy Spirit, our helper, please remind us when we are not in tune with your will. 🙏🏽
Wow!!! This is powerful Mum!!! You are in the spirit!!! And the Spirit is one!!!
In my next post, I actually share about God, Our Example! and my closing text was:
For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. 1 Peter 2:21 NLT
Indeed we are called to be selfless just like Christ – even if it means it’s inconvenient and causes us to suffer pain, loss, being cheated, mocked…
Your comment about putting others first really touched me. It’s interesting that most times we don’t actually think of putting others firs. We usually put ourselves first – I think it’s just human nature. The best we do is try to Love others as ourselves and try to accommodate them if it’s suitable for us…
Thank you for sharing that word of correction and instruction.
I pray that indeed the Holy Spirit our Helper would help us to truly become imitators of Christ and His way of doing things, so that we can become more and more like Him each day.
Thank you sooo much for your contribution Ma xx
