When You Walk On Water, You Acquire The Strength To Do The (Seemingly) Impossible
Sufficient Grace
A few years ago, my Senior Pastor, Michael Olawore (of blessed memory) greatly inspired us whilst teaching a series titled “The Sufficiency of Grace” . The foundation scripture was 2 Corinthians 12:9 . It reads: “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest upon me.”
My Pastor showed us a video of Nick Vujicic who had no limbs but had achieved great things and was an accomplished motivational speaker.
Indeed God’s strength is made perfect in our weaknesses.
Soon after, I watched a Paralympics swimming contest. The winner had no arms but could swim very fast.
Since then I have watched videos of people with missing, truncated, or no limbs at all (like Nick Vujicic and Jennifer Bricker) doing amazing things – involved in sports, running their lives like normal people would, enjoying the gift of life and inspiring others to be all they can be.
Personally, I have seen God’s strength made perfect in weaknesses too. He has given me immense inner strength to hold me up when I was very physically ill. I have received favours I didn’t qualify for when I needed them. I have also passed exams and been successful at interviews when I was not sure of myself.
Strength for the Impossible
I can do all this through Him who gives me strength – Philippians 4:13.
I am reminded of a song called “His Strength is Perfect” by the beautiful Cece Winans.
The lyrics goes like this:
His strength is perfect
So perfect
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength
But sometimes I wonder what He can do for me
No great success to show
No glory of my own
Yet in my weakness He is there to let me know
(chorus)
His strength is perfect when our strength is gone
He’ll carry us when we can’t carry on
Raised in His power the weak becomes strong
His strength is perfect
His strength is perfect
We can only know the power that He holds
When we truly see how deep our weakness goes
His strength it must begin
When ours comes to an end
He hears our humble cry and proves again
Judging by the words of this song, my personal experiences and my observations of physically challenged people who go on to achieve mindblowing things, it is very clear that God’s strength indeed begins where ours comes to an end.
Through God we can do even things we “deem” impossible when we call upon Him to help us and totally trust and depend on Him to come to our aid. The truth is with God nothing is impossible. Impossibilities only exist in our own minds (and consequently in our reality) because we “deem” them impossible.
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” – Mark 10:27.
It is my prayer that as you go through life and its challenges, you will always remember that there are no impossibilities with God, and always ask Him, trust Him, and lean on Him, to help you to be amazing and exceptional at all times.
For by You I can run against a troop; By my God I can leap over a wall – 2 Samuel 22:30.
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you – Matthew 7:7
Now to Him who is able to exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be the glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
